Trendsetters 2018

Post by BigBlueNation » Sat Jan 20, 2018 3:06 pm

It's that time of the year boys and girls. The beginning of one of the most anticipated drafts of the year is just a couple weeks away. We take off just minutes after the SB. This draft is done in phases, normally three week intervals. I don't have the schedule yet, but we'll do four phases before the NFL draft, and one phase after the draft. We select rookies (not specific players) before the NFL draft. After the NFL draft, we fill the rookie slots. Whoever took Rookie1, gets first pick, and so on. The transparency of this draft makes for some great read and chat on the MBs, not to mention one of the most viewed threads on the MBs. We have all owners returning from last year, plus a couple owners adding co-managers just to spice it up a little bit. Congrats to all of last years winners.

2017 Top 3;
Wayne Ellis 2668.9
Mike Sanda 2583.5
Frank Mammola 2497.7

Wayne hit with his first five picks last year. Anybody that does 14 team DC's knows that's a great beginning. He picked from the 2 slot. Don't let the two QB's early confuse you, this is a draft of runs.
1.2 LBell
2.13 KAllen
3.13 MRyan
4.2 KCousins
5.13 THill
As good as this was, he got JDoyle in the 14th, KHunt in the 20th and HButker in the 28th. Great job Wayne, good luck this year.

2018 DRAFT ORDER
1. Wayne Ellis
2. Bill Cleavenger/Jack Haan
3. Matt Bayley
4. Chris Gillman
5. Glenn Lowy
6. Frank Mammola
7. Jeff Clampitt
8. Mike Sanda
9. Andy Saxton/Corey Parsons
10. Shawn Gundy
11. Jules McLean
12. Mark Moyer
13. Mike Santos
14. Billy Wasosky

Great to add Jack and Corey to the group. Enjoy the ride guys.

As long as nobody objects, I'll post the first phase of the draft. A few of us post our individual teams with comments as the draft moves along. As said earlier, great for discussion.

As a testament to just how wild this league (and the NFL) can be, I had just about thrown in the towel on my team last year before this draft even ended, after taking some big risks at RB (like waiting til round 6 to even start taking any!). My top two RBs ended up being Lewis and Lynch, who both finished in the top-25. But in a year that we now know was a return to RB dominance (seven of the top-10 WR/RB/TE finishers were RBs), this certainly didn't setup for a recipe for success.

I ended up in 2nd place though , thanks to:
  • Strong QB play (Wilson and Brady were 1st and 3rd).
  • Continued success by WR Antonio Brown, finishing just a half a point less than Hopkins for the top WR spot. And a top-15 finish by 19th-rd WR pick Robby Anderson.
  • DST2 finish by BAL (despite a 21st finish by DEN, whom I drafted six rounds earlier).
  • Two top-7 kickers (Gould & Lutz).
  • As for those RBs? After averaging just 6.9 PPG through the first eight games, Lewis turned it on to average 16.7 PPG over the last seven games. Lynch only averaged 10 PPG for the season, but scored 20+ points three times and added another six games over ten points.
My thoughts on my team last year 2/3 of the way through the draft:

It seems like Antonio Brown at 8 is a bargain....... Can't wait to begin 2018 drafts in early March!!!

Agree, Greg. I don't imagine he'll fall to 8 in many leagues this year..

Nice QB run in the third round. Who is the expected Rookie 2 that went in the third round? I wasn't sure a second skill position Rookie would go that high. Is it Guice or Ridley? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.

rookie2 was me/Corey Parsons. He talked me into it. Not sure I like the pick right now with other guys avail I really liked. But he told me to trust him so that is what I will do.

I am hoping someone rockets up the boards and I can answer that question for you better in a month or two(Guice, Ronald Jones, Michel perhaps). Don't think it will be anything but a RB.

Here's a draft board view, with the usual colored-coded positions:

Greg, now that the NFFC has MFL, will you be upgrading the MFL draft board to use the same color-coding that NFFC drafts use? Thanks.
